2020s History Timeline

2021

  • May 15, 2021
    • The complete renovation of Neumann Library’s first floor began on May 15, 2021.
      • During the renovation, the library renovated the classroom into an Active Learning Classroom with new digital capacities and added a new XR Lab for virtual experiences.

2022

  • February 14, 2022
    • Neumann Library reopened the main floor on February 14, 2022, with the “Love Your Library” theme. This event was described as a soft opening, since renovations did not fully finish until March 2022.
  • March 2022
    • Renovations of Neumann Library’s first floor were completed in March 2022.
    • The Provost’s Office officially approved referring to the UHCL Neumann Library and Pearland Library as the “UHCL Libraries.”
  • October 2022
    • On October 5, 2022, Neumann Library hosted a grand reopening event for UHCL faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
      • The Fall 2022 semester event commemorated the full reopening of the library's first floor for the 2022-2023 academic year following a year-long renovation.

  • December 2022
    • UHCL Libraries hired Beth Fridrick as the first Emerging Technologies Librarian.

2023

  • March 2023
    • Lee Andrew Hilyer began serving as the Interim Executive Director of UHCL Libraries.
  • August 2023
    • Lee Andrew Hilyer was permanently named Executive Director of UHCL Libraries.
    • Shortly after his permanent appointment, Hilyer formalized the Library Senior Leadership Team, composed of library department leaders.
      • This leadership group existed under previous directors with different names and compositions, but Hilyer’s project management background helped him formalize its structure.
