In 1974, Walter Wicker hired Patricia J. Garrett as the first professional librarian for the University of Houston Clear Lake City’s Library, working as a reference librarian. She worked various roles within the UHCL Library throughout the 1970s and 1980s. By 1983, she served as the Assistant Director for Neumann Library. Patricia J. Garrett was serving as the Associate Dean of Public Services as of 1987. When founding library director Walter Wicker left, Garrett assumed the position of Interim Director of UHCL Neumann Library starting in June 1986 through August 1987. She again served as the Interim Library Director from 1992 to 1994. Garrett retired from UHCL Neumann Library in 2001.
Garrett earned her BA degrees in Religion, History, and English from Baylor University. She earned her MLS degree from Vanderbilt University.
