Services for Faculty

Librarians can support faculty teaching efforts in a variety of ways:

Library Instruction

Library instruction sessions teach students research strategies and effective use of information resources.  Librarians tailor instruction sessions to a course's specific subjects, assignments, and learning outcomes.  In-person and online instruction sessions are available.

Library Course Guides

Librarians can create research guides for specific courses. Course guides are tailored to a course’s syllabus and assignments, and guide students in the use of relevant research resources. Course guides can be linked to directly from Canvas courses.

To request a research guide for your course, contact your library liaison or email library@uhcl.edu.

Embedded Librarian

Embedded librarians are added to a Canvas course under a custom “Librarian role”.  Embedded librarians can add a customizable Canvas module to the course that can include the following:

• Links to relevant Library Course Guides or Subject Guides
• A discussion board where the librarian can post discussion topics, answer student questions, or follow up on faculty recommendations
• Copies of library instruction hand outs
• Chat box for live chat with a librarian during Research Desk open hours
• Relevant tutorials (e.g. APA citation tutorial)
• Instruction Librarian profile and contact information

Librarians are available to:

• assist users with all types of information requests
• answer questions about the library's resources and how to use them
• provide support at every stage of the research process
