Study PAWS

“Hello," my name is Emma. I am an eight year old, white standard poodle. I have the best job. I visit schools, and nursing homes and spread joy and encouragement to those who are stressed, or just tired. People are wonderful, but sometimes they need to be reminded of how wonderful they are and how much joy and love there is in our world.....and that's my job.

I am often asked how I prepared for my unusual job.  Before I even left my first home, I was given little lessons that encouraged me to solve problems and build my confidence.  I moved to my owner's home when I was eight weeks old.  (I call her Mom or Molly depending on the occasion.)  Mom taught me general commands and to pay attention to what she said even when we were in strange places, but happily she also allowed me to explore new environments and to meet all sorts of people.  As part of our work we entered several dog shows, and I won a couple of obedience titles.

When I reached my first birthday, I was allowed to enter a therapy dog test.  It was very difficult to keep all of my feet on the floor with so many wonderful people playing games, but I passed. I get to play the test games once a year.  It's fun.    I do not understand why people do not like tests......some things in life are confusing.

I will visit your school soon. Come and meet me if you can.  We can play games, and compare our test experiences.
