What is Scholarly Communication?

Scholarly Communication refers to the many ways in which scholars and researchers share their work. It can be thought of as “the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use” (ACRL). Traditional publications, such as scholarly journals/articles, chapters, monographs, and conference proceedings are the most commonly thought of publications in this system, but other published works, such as data sets, data visualizations, and working papers are also included. 

There are many parts of this system that could benefit from the support from our Scholarly Communications Office. Assistance with the evaluation of journals, copyright concerns, and questions about open access and the institutional repository are all ways in which we can help. 

We can also aid in the location and creation of open resources for your courses.
