About Hispanic Heritage Month

From hispanicheritagemonth.gov:

We celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. This is a month to celebrate Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Spain. Like most heritage months, this period of celebration began as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968, during Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency. In 1988, President Ronald Regan extended the celebratory period to a month, from September 15 to October 15. On August 17, 1988, Public Law 100-402 cemented his decision.

During this thirty day period, several Latin American countries celebrate their independence. Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras celebrate on September 15. Mexico celebrates on September 16. Chile celebrates on September 18. Additionally, we also celebrate Día de la Raza (also known as Columbus Day) during this period.
