Database Access: Make a Screen Shot

Instructions - Windows

Windows comes with a simple Snipping Tool. To make a screen shot:

  1. Click Start at the bottom right of the window
  2. Type snip in the search box
  3. Click Snipping Tool at the top of the result list

 

 

 

 

 

When you see the Snipping Tool box, click on one corner of the screen and drag the mouse to define the area you want to snip, and then release the mouse button. The snipped area displays in the Snipping Tool box.

 

  1. Click File in the top menu bar
  2. Click Save As
  3. Choose where you want to save the file
  4. Type a name for the file
  5. Click Save

Remember where you saved the file & what you named it. You need this information to upload the screen shot.

 

To make a screen shot using the keyboard and a text editor:

When the screen you want to capture is displayed

  1. Press the PrtScrn key
  2. Open your text editor (Wordpad, Word, etc.)
  3. Start a new document
     
  4. Follow the directions for your text editor to Paste. Some ways are:
    Right-click on the document page and choose Paste
    OR
    click Edit in the top menu bar and choose Paste
    OR
    press the Ctrl and V keys at the same time
     
  5. The screen shot will display in the new document.
  6. If possible, edit the screen shot to show the most relevant parts of the screen.
  7. Save the document.

Remember where you saved the file & what you named it. You need this information to upload the screen shot.

Instructions - Mac & iOS

Make a screenshot of your whole screen

  1. Press Command (⌘)-Shift-3.
  2. Find the screenshot as a .png file on your desktop.

Make a screenshot of part of your screen

  1. Press Command-Shift-4. The pointer changes to a crosshair pointer.
  2. Move the crosshair pointer to where you want to start the screenshot.
  3. Drag to select an area. While dragging, you can hold the Shift key, Option key, or Space bar to change the way the selection moves.
  4. When you've selected the area you want, release your mouse or trackpad button. To cancel, press the Escape (esc) key before you release the button.
  5. Find the screenshot as a .png file on your desktop.

  1. Press Command-Shift-4. The pointer changes to a crosshair pointer.
  2. Press the Space bar. The pointer changes to a camera pointer.
  3. Move the camera pointer over a window to highlight it.
  4. Click your mouse or trackpad. To cancel, press the Escape (esc) key before you click.
  5. Find the screenshot as a .png file on your desktop.

You can capture the screen on your iOS device using the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.

  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top or side of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then immediately press and release the Home button.
  2. You can find the screenshot in your Photos app.
