UH ID Card

Students in the UH system must present their UHCL, UH, or UHD student ID card to borrow library items.

Cards for UHCL students, faculty, and staff can be obtained online or from

  • the Student Life Office, room SSCB 1.204 Student Services building
  • at Pearland in the Student Services office, room PAB 152

TexShare Card

The TexShare Card program enables patrons from public and college libraries to borrow items from over 500 participating libraries, including Neumann Library and Pearland Library.

TexShare cards are issued by your home library. Search for your library on the Texshare Find a Library page to see if your library is in the program.

TexShare borrowers from other libraries may borrow four books from UHCL (Neumann or Pearland campus libraries) at a time. Intercampus book transfer and Interlibrary Loan are not available for TexShare borrowers.

Current UHCL students, faculty, and staff who wish to borrow items from other TexShare libraries may obtain a TexShare card at the Neumann Library Research Desk or the UHCL Pearland  Library service desk.

Note: due to current issues with adherence to TexShare policies, Neumann Library cannot currently accept TexShare cards from Texas Southern University.

Return Library Items

You can return library items at:

  • The Neumann Library circulation desk
  • The UHCL Pearland Library service desk
  • The book drop located next to the Neumann Library entrance
  • The book drop located outside the Bayou Building entrance closest to the student parking lot
  • Any other library in the University of Houston system

-Items must be returned in the same condition as when checked out.

-Do not write or highlight in books, fold pages, or remove pages.

-Borrowers are financially responsible for damage that occurs to the item while it is checked out to them.

-If you notice damage before checking the item out, please bring it to the attention of library staff.  The damage will be noted in the item's record, and you will not be held responsible for the damage upon return.

Lost/Unreturned Library Items

  • If an item is not returned within 30 days after its due date, it will be billed to your account. Billed items will result in a suspension of borrowing privileges and a block on UHCL student or employee records.
  • If you return an item after it has been billed, it will clear your account of all replacement costs for the item.  Any applicable overdue fines will remain.
  • The charge for lost UHCL items is the price of the item plus a $10.00 processing fee. Payment for lost items must be by cash or check.
  • Replacement costs for items from other UH campuses are determined by their home campus.  Check the University of Houston or University of Houston Downtown library policies for additional information.  Payment for lost items from other UH campuses must be made at the campus that owns the item, even if the book was checked out at UHCL.
  • If you pay for a lost/billed UHCL item, and then locate it, you may still return it to the library up to one year after payment date. The cost of the item will be refunded, but not the $10.00 processing fee.  Policies differ for books owned by other libraries.

Fines

  • 2-Hour Course Reserves: $0.50 per hour
  • 1, 3, 7, & 21 day Course Reserves: $2.00 per day
  • Recalled items: $1.00 per day
  • Study Room Keys: $5.00 per hour
  • Calculators: $10.00 per day

Overdue or recall notices are sent to your campus email address, or the email account in your library record (community borrowers).

Fines of $25.00 or more will result in a suspension of borrowing privileges until the balance is less than $25.00.

Fines may be paid by cash or check.

Fines accrued for UH Central or UH Downtown items may not be paid at UHCL Library, even if they were checked out from UHCL.
