XR Lab

The extended reality (XR) Lab at University of Houston - Clear Lake's Neumann Library is an immersive opportunity for students and faculty to discover and engage with virtual reality technology. The XR Lab provides an equitable opportunity for students and faculty to engage with VR technology while inspiring learning and innovation. Extended reality (XR) is an overarching term to describe augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) technologies.

  • AR consists of graphics being superimposed on top of the real world
  • VR puts the user into a fully immersive environment
  • MR is a combination of AR and VR

XR Lab Terms & Conditions

  • XR Lab users acknowledge the risks involved in the use of virtual reality equipment. These include, but are not limited to, dizziness, nausea, motion illness, etc.
  • XR Lab users agree to make every effort to obey safety precautions provided by library staff and ask for clarifications when needed.
  • XR Lab users acknowledge that while wearing XR Lab headsets, they will not be able to see their real-life environment and agree to use caution as a result.
  • XR Lab users agree to hold UHCL Libraries entirely free from any liability, including financial responsibility, for injuries incurred during the use of its equipment.
  • XR Lab users acknowledge that priority is given to academic and research use in the XR Lab, and library staff may limit recreational use of lab equipment.
  • XR Lab users agree to keep food and beverages out of the lab.
  • XR Lab users agree to adhere to all UHCL policies.
  • XR Lab appointments must start at least 15 minutes before closing time.
