WRIT 3305: Writing for Humanities: Find Books & Ebooks

Find Books

Advanced Search

Individual keywords and short, commonly used "exact phrase" searches usually work well when searching books and media.

Examples:

  • "birth order"
  • brothers sisters
  • siblings adoption

For more complex searches like (brothers OR sisters OR siblings) AND (rivalry OR competition), use Advanced Search. Once you have a set of results:

  • Change "Sort by" from relevance to date-newest, date-oldest, title, author, etc.
  • Select and apply filters as needed, including availability (online, held by library), creation date, etc.

 1. Sign in to OneSearch, and use Request under Get It if a UH library has a copy available.

         Shows request link

 2. Or submit a Book Request form.

  • Use action icons to capture a draft citation or export to EndNote Web or EndNote desktop (RIS)
  • After signing in, use Request under Get It to place a "hold" on an out-of-library item or transfer an item from another campus
  • Note campus/library, availability, location within library, and classification number
  • Expand location information for more details on available copies and loan period

Shows detailed record icons, request link, and location-related information as described above
