Borrowing Library Materials (Circulation Services): IDs & Borrower Cards

Learn about borrowing, renewing, and requesting materials from Neumann Library.

UH ID Card

Students, faculty, and staff in the UH system must present their UH system ID card to borrow library items.  Your university ID card can be used to borrow materials at any UH-system library.

Cards for UHCL students, faculty, and staff can be obtained from the Student Life Office located in room 1.204 in the Student Services building.  They may also be obtained at UHCL Pearland in room P152.

Community Borrower Cards

  • Community members who are not affiliated with the UH system may gain library borrowing privileges by purchasing an Affiliate Borrower card.
  • Affiliate Borrowers may borrow up to 10 items at a time (limit of 4 media).
  • Affiliate Borrowers may place requests for materials from other libraries in the UH System, but may not make Interlibrary Loan requests.
  • Affiliate Borrowers do not have off-campus access to the library's databases and eBooks.
  • The cost of an Affiliate Borrower card is $35 per year, payable by cash or check. Applicants must be at least 19 years old, and a driver's license is required. Payment for Affiliate cards is nonrefundable.
  • To purchase an Affiliate Borrower card, please visit the circulation desk at Neumann Library.

Lifetime Alumni

  • Graduates with Lifetime membership in the UHCL or UH Alumni Association may check out up to 10 items (limit of 4 media) from the library at a time.
  • Lifetime Alumni may place requests for materials from other libraries in the UH System, but may not request Interlibrary Loan items.
  • Lifetime Alumni do not have off-campus access to the library's databases.

  • The benefits for a General Alumni membership do not include library borrowing privileges. If you have a General Alumni membership and wish to borrow library materials, you may either purchase a Community Borrower's card or obtain a TexShare Card from a participating library.

TexShare Card

  • The TexShare Card program enables patrons from public and college libraries to borrow items from over 500 participating libraries, including Neumann Library.
  • TexShare cards are issued by your home library. Search for your library on the Texshare Find a Library page to see if your library is in the program.
  • TexShare borrowers from other libraries may borrow four items from UHCL (Neumann or Pearland Campus libraries) at a time. Intercampus book transfer and Interlibrary Loan are not available for TexShare borrowers.
  • Current UHCL students, faculty, and staff who wish to borrow items from other TexShare libraries may obtain a TexShare card at the Neumann Library Research Desk or the UHCL Pearland Campus Library service desk.

Continuing Education

  • Individuals who are registered with the UHCL Continuing Education program for the current semester may borrow materials from Neumann Library.
  • Continuing Education borrowers may borrow 10 items (limit of 4 media) from Neumann Library and UHCL Pearland Library at a time. Intercampus book transfer and Interlibrary Loan are not available for Continuing Education borrowers.
  • Continuing Education borrowers do not have off-campus access to the library's databases or eBooks.
  • To obtain or renew a Continuing Education borrower card, bring a photo ID and an email confirmation or print receipt which shows payment for a current semester membership in the Continuing Education program to the Neumann Library circulation desk.

Lunar and Planetary Institute Staff

  • A staff library card from the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) can be used to borrow books, theses, dissertations, and government documents from Neumann Library.
  • LPI staff may borrow four items at a time.  Intercampus book transfers, Interlibrary Loans, and off-campus database access are not available for LPI staff.
